Mardi Gras

Krewe of Little Rascals

Founded in 1983, the Krewe of Little Rascals is America's longest-running Mardi Gras krewe for children. Named after the famous group of kids from TV and film, the krewe patterns itself after adult Carnival clubs in the city with a pre-Mardi-Gras ball and parade.
The organization promotes leadership, self-esteem and fellowship among pint-sized participants from age two to nineteen. The krewe has been featured internationally on Japanese television as well as in National Geographic.

I chose to do this krewe because of its bright colors in its symbol and also it's association with the Little Rascals and what the organization promotes.

In my designs I took inspiration from both the symbol of the krewe and various floats that represented the krewe in Mardi Gras parades.

Krewe of Athena

The Krewe of Athena Carnival Club, Inc. is an all-female Mardi Gras club in Greater New Orleans. Founded in 2014, the club is named after the Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts and skill. Athena was, perhaps, the wisest, most courageous, and certainly the most resourceful of the Olympian gods. Her tree is the olive, representing peace, and the owl is her bird, representing wisdom.

I chose to design this krewe because of all of the empowerment that it gives towards women. I kept my design simple but also used the colors of the krewe symbol, which has bright primary colors throughout it.

Crew of Cleopatra

Founded in 1972, the first all-female krewe on the West Bank celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2012 with a movie to the East Bank, becoming the first all-female organization on the Uptown route. Their motto is: "Her beauty is timeless, her age is now...forever!"

I also chose this krewe because of the female empowerment and how it represents women's beauty. I
love their motto and made my designs with it in mind.

I decided to do one of my krewe of Athena designs as my water paint based makeup look.

First I drew the outline of my look on my face with an eyebrow pencil.

Next I started adding the paint to my face one color at a time.

To finish my look I lined my look in black paint. I was pleased how it looked for my first try.
